The Truth Backpack is a PDF sewing pattern designed with the versatility of only having the See-Through option when you need it! Many venues now require Clear Bags to enter, but that may not be the only place you need to be that day. That’s why the Truth Backpack comes with a Removable Snap-in Liner that folds neatly into itself when not in use. Having a removable Liner also allows you to customize your bag according to your mood or outing. The Truth Backpack would also make a great ITA bag!

Too many designers are claiming patterns to be beginner-friendly, so we are keeping to the TRUTH. We’ve coined a new level of expertise for the Truth Backpack!

We are calling it a “Beginner-mediate” level sewing pattern.

What does “Beginner-mediate” mean? Well..... it’s a mixture between confident Beginner and Intermediate level sewist. Does that mean this pattern is difficult? No! Not at all. The concepts in this pattern are just new and different. A Confident Beginner could definitely achieve the design features of this bag, but along with working with clear (possibly sticky) vinyl there are several totally new techniques involved. We have added a few helpful tips for sewing with clear vinyl. [As a side note: TPU is much easier to use.]

The webbing that mounts the rings to the backpack is more than just a design feature. Because there cannot be any interfacing to support the points of connection, the webbing adds a bit of structure to alleviate pressure points. Though the pattern gives very precise measurements, there is a little bit of wiggle room in the end. 😉

The Snap-in Liner is constructed similar to any boxed-corner bag with a couple of key differences. The turning hole is on the exterior side. The Slip Pocket is essentially the same as any other slip pocket, but extra reinforcing may be necessary at the top corners to strengthen the connection points when folding it into itself. The feature that sets this apart is the the Snaps, and we provide a guide to ensure the placement is correct. (Just be sure to note which direction to install them! 😉)

Now that we are talking about the snaps, that is another “new technique/concept” about this pattern. The clear backpack could technically have the snaps added straight to the bag, but we added snap strips for a couple of reasons. The Snap Strips provide that extra layer of support since a clear bag does not allow interfacing to be added. The snap strip also keeps the liner from being snagged when installed in the bag. (The Liner is sandwiched into the Snap Strip.)

These innovative design features step this bag up from an entry level sewing pattern, but it is easily achievable. There are no curves or crazy material manipulations. [Think of it like a Lego set.... If you skip one step, your finished results may be slightly off.] After finishing your first Truth Backpack you’ll understand the concepts, and it will be easier the next time! 😊

Another thing to note is that if you decide the Liner isn’t for you....you can omit the entire Liner portion of the tutorial.

We hope you enjoy making the Truth Backpack, and would love to see your versions. Please be sure to post them in the Cherishing Today Designs Facebook Group.
